November 2024
Holidays are not always easy! It’s a season that can easily become focused on our shortage of daylight, time, or patience. Although it’s different for each of us, in the middle of the frenzy, God writes a beautiful story from the life that YOU fashioned at CHOICES this season.
“Kara” went to Planned Parenthood to have her abortion before the holiday and before she reached the 6-week limit. She considered going to New York to have a later abortion but was unable to afford to go; she works two jobs to provide for her 6-year-old son. She said she wants to finish nursing school and feels physically and fiscally exhausted.
When she left Planned Parenthood to seek another abortion clinic, Kara found CHOICES and shared about her two previous and “traumatic” abortions. Her boyfriend of two years is very supportive, wants to raise this baby with her and has been a good father to her son. We encouraged her to talk with “Derek” and lay it all out, affirm him for the wonderful father he is to her son, and invite him to be equally as good a father to their child.
Kara said she’s ashamed to talk to God about her life and her desire to abort. We affirmed that God already knows everything about her life and not to allow shame to create more distance between her and God. When our medical staff reminded her that Jesus is waiting for her to reach out to Him and invite Him into her heart and make Him Lord of her life and her decisions, she confessed her need and accepted Jesus as her Savior. “I am going back to church on Sunday. I stopped going once I got everything I wanted.”
Kara responded, “Can I hug you? I needed to be here. I needed to hear this.” Followed by a hug, a smile, tears of thankfulness, she was asking for pictures when they heard their baby’s heartbeat on the ultrasound. These moments make it all worth it, Friend! It brings me great joy this season to stop and pause to thank you for another life He saved through your participation and partnership.
Thank you for reaching women and men at a critical moment in time in the middle of the holiday, in the middle of the unexpected, and in the middle of the lies. At that final moment, you changed the story just before Kara and Derek would have regretfully taken abortion pills that would have ended their baby’s life. Let’s pause and add this life to our holiday celebration!
