Dear Dan and Pat,

Thank you for helping a desperate mom and dad find us. “Lora” showed up at CHOICES with her boyfriend. They were sure they would receive abortion pills and end the life of their child that day. Like so many of us with our first pregnancy, they were concerned about finances and their parents’ reactions and described their new relationship as “all over the place.” “Justin” knew she was pregnant but wasn’t sure how he felt about the pregnancy.

Lora instantly began to cry when we talked about abortion and her fears of how it may affect her future, and she asked lots of good questions. Our Clinic Manager asked permission to share her own story, and Lora agreed. She went on to explain that parenting, adoption, and abortion are all lifelong decisions, but only one includes ending the life of a person. That was a new perspective for Lora.

During the ultrasound, we noticed Justin smiling as their nurse shared the sound of the heartbeat and pointed it out on the screen. After the ultrasound, we gave them privacy to sit in one of the consult rooms, as it seemed they wanted to talk about the ultrasound. Their nurse encouraged them to allow their families to experience the same emotions they had, and Justin said, “That’s happening today.”

When the Gospel was shared, Lora cried, stating she loved God and knows He is not for abortion. We had an opportunity to encourage her to trust God even when it seems impossible, to identify the lies of the enemy until only the truth remains because then she’ll be able to make a decision that honors God. Lora said Jesus is her Savior and allowed us to pray for them.

A week later, Lora and Justin returned to the clinic for another ultrasound. They had shared the news with their family and were excited to share with us that they would be parenting! They are now attending our parenting class and experiencing a rich community that is doing far more than preparing them to be a mom and dad.
